Guy T. Goodman succumbs here Early Monday Morning As Victim of Stroke Sunday.

a stroke. of apoplexy as he drove with his family. Sunday afternoon Dr. .Guy
T. Goodman, for many years one of Mansfield's best known physicians,
died at his home, 111 N. Mulberry St., Monday morning at 8 o'clock.
The
doctor had been in his usual good. health .and after completing his morning
calls Sunday started for a drive with his wife and mother.
When
not far from Bucyrus and en route for his home Dr. Goodman was stricken but
continued, to drive on until he had reached a point between Leesville and
Crestline. There it became impossible for him to continue and a passing
motorist volunteered to drive the car into Crestline.
Dr.
J. H. Nichols and Dr. R. R. Black. with whom Dr. Goodman had been closely
associated for years, were notified and went to Crestline.
Is
Returned Home.
The
stricken man expressed a desire to return to his home at once and this
wish was complied with. He failed to rally during the night and death came
quietly this morning.
The
passing of Dr. Goodman was a profound shock to a wide circle of friends and
those to whom he had professionally administered. for almost 30 years. Few men
in Mansfield enjoyed a greater acquaintanceship.
He
was born in Jeromeville, Aug. 18, 1871 and attended school there. Later
he attended the
Berea
college of Medicine and graduated from the Western Reserve School of Medicine
in Cleveland.
Enters
Practice
After
serving a period as intern in Cleveland Dr. Goodman came to Mansfield and for
a time practiced with the late Dr. J. Harvey Craig. Later he opened his own
office in conjunction with the Mulberry St. home and had been in continuous
practice since.
For
a number of years Dr. Goodman served Richland county as its coroner and at
another time was health officer of Mansfield. During that period the
city passed through several epidemics. which he, in an official capacity,
handled in admirable fashion.
Some
years ago he made an exhaustive study at. aenesthetics and became an authority
on the subject. It is believed no other doctor in this section of the
state has administered a greater number, in a like period of time, than
had Dr. Goodman.
In
Fraternal Circles
Dr.
Goodman was active in fraternal circles of the city having become a member of
Mansfield lodge No. 56 B. P. O. Elks more than a quarter of a century ago
He took a marked interest in the affairs of that organization and many times
served on various committees and sponsored numerous events.
The
doctor was also a member of all the Masonic bodies, including the Mansfield
Lodge, The Knights Templar the Council, the Chapter, the Al Koran Shrine,
of Cleveland and the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the
Mansfield lodge of Eagles.
Dr.
Goodman enjoyed travel and had visited many sections of the country.
Last year he motored with his family to the west coast and at the time of his
death was planning a European tour with a number of intimate friends, which
was to have been started in June and continued until the late fall.
Dr.
Goodman was preceded in death his father David Goodman, for many years a
well known resident of Mansfield.
In
February of 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Lucine Woodward of
Cleveland who, with his mother who resided with him, survive.
Funeral
Thursday
Funeral
services are to be conducted from the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock
under the auspices of the Elks’ Lodge. Officiating will be the Rev. Otto
Scott Steele, pastor of the Central Methodist church of which he was a member
and the Rev. C.B. Hess, former pastor of the church but now superintendent of
the north-eastern Ohio district of Methodist churches with headquarters in
Norwalk.
Pallbearers are to be close friends
of Dr, Goodman in his fraternal life. Those who will officiate are Harry E.
Hawley. Henry G. Brunner, Julius Weber, Charles Ritter, George H. Lowrey and
Charles Schroer.
